Election Writing

WALT: Write an effective argument for our chosen political party.

Have you voted yet? And if you have, who have you voted for?
Personally for me I have a favourite party, New Zealand first. Their policies are great and they deserve lots of chairs even if they aren't the ‘main’ party in parliament at the moment. “Stand with us”In this argument I am going to tell you some of the great policies New Zealand First has. For instance, Keep the retirement age at 65, Remove GST from all food, and Abolish secondary tax.One of these amazing policies are keeping the retirement age at 65, and that is what I will be talking about in the next paragraph.

Keep the retirement age at 65.
New Zealand First believes that seniors must be treated with respect and not as a burden on society. Because lots of people will retire at ages from 60 - 65 and if they retire earlier like at 60  they aren't getting lots of money for 5 years and if the retirement age is any higher it will be hard for lots of people. Would you like your grandparents or elderly family members to still be working at 75? Furthermore, its a good age to stop work and a good marker for where to keep working till.  Which brings me to my next point. Another reason you should vote for New Zealand first because they have a good policy which is to remove all GST from food and thats what im going to talk about in the next paragraph.

Remove GST from all food.
New Zealand First believes that necessities like food shouldn’t be taxed. For instance food prices are rising, and the National Government’s GST increase has made it even more expensive. This is a very good policy because the food in the stores are very expensive and people can't afford any of the food they need. Would you like to be broke and not be able to buy healthy snacks? Another reason this is a great thing is because people are getting very unhealthy because the sugary products are the only things that are cheap and then they might have to go to the dentist and that will cost way too much for them to afford. Another good policy to focus on is to abolish secondary tax.

Abolish secondary tax.
New Zealand First believes that secondary tax is an unfair burden on people who have more than one job. Abolishing secondary tax should make the tax system more fair and help people working multiple jobs make ends meet. This is a great policy because some people who cannot get enough money to feed their families. as shown lots of people have two jobs to get enough money but then you will get twice as much tax which would make it harder to get the money you need, and this causes people to quit their jobs and lose money. What if YOU had two jobs and had to pay tax more. This is also a good policy because people who LIKE having two jobs would hate getting secondary tax. Like people who have one job for money and another like art or something that doesn't pay very well but people enjoy. This is another reason you need to vote New Zealand First. These are the policies I like/agree with but next paragraph are the ones I don't like and don't agree with.

This is one of the terrible policies I disagree with...Set a minimum price for alcohol.
The Green Party believes that alcohol is a health and social problem and should be treated as such. This is a bad idea because if the price was lower, more people would buy it and they would buy more. Not the other way around. Would you like christchurch to be a bunch of addicts? Also this would make more people have health problems because they could buy more bottles of alcohol for less money and die early because they could get addicted. I think this is a very good reason not to vote for green/labour, now I will be wrapping up my main points.

In this argument I have stated my favourite policies from New Zealand first and told you why they ARE great and you should vote for them. I think New Zealand first is a great party to vote for because they are very strong in Incomes, Migration, Housing and lots more but this is great because these are very important policies. The points I have talked about include, abolishing secondary tax for low income earners, Remove GST from all food, for people who can't afford things like this and lastly, Keep the retirement age at 65, for grandparents who need the extra money. So have I changed your mind on who to vote for?

My next steps are: To understand the policies even more than I do already and make it so the reader KNOWS that I know a lot about them.
