distinction kapa haka 7

Today was kapa haka and we were getting recorded and maybe being put on T.V later. Firstly we went to the hall foyer and took off our shoes because we have to. We next got into our lines and then made adjustments to them. Then we went through a practice song and before we knew it...the photographer was there! Then we took a few takes and when we got it perfect, we stopped and thanked the photographer. I showed respect by being quiet in between takes. I showed leadership by sorting out the lines to make them better. I was a role model by showing the actions to everyone.

Election Writing

WALT: Write an effective argument for our chosen political party.

Have you voted yet? And if you have, who have you voted for?
Personally for me I have a favourite party, New Zealand first. Their policies are great and they deserve lots of chairs even if they aren't the ‘main’ party in parliament at the moment. “Stand with us”In this argument I am going to tell you some of the great policies New Zealand First has. For instance, Keep the retirement age at 65, Remove GST from all food, and Abolish secondary tax.One of these amazing policies are keeping the retirement age at 65, and that is what I will be talking about in the next paragraph.

Keep the retirement age at 65.
New Zealand First believes that seniors must be treated with respect and not as a burden on society. Because lots of people will retire at ages from 60 - 65 and if they retire earlier like at 60  they aren't getting lots of money for 5 years and if the retirement age is any higher it will be hard for lots of people. Would you like your grandparents or elderly family members to still be working at 75? Furthermore, its a good age to stop work and a good marker for where to keep working till.  Which brings me to my next point. Another reason you should vote for New Zealand first because they have a good policy which is to remove all GST from food and thats what im going to talk about in the next paragraph.

Remove GST from all food.
New Zealand First believes that necessities like food shouldn’t be taxed. For instance food prices are rising, and the National Government’s GST increase has made it even more expensive. This is a very good policy because the food in the stores are very expensive and people can't afford any of the food they need. Would you like to be broke and not be able to buy healthy snacks? Another reason this is a great thing is because people are getting very unhealthy because the sugary products are the only things that are cheap and then they might have to go to the dentist and that will cost way too much for them to afford. Another good policy to focus on is to abolish secondary tax.

Abolish secondary tax.
New Zealand First believes that secondary tax is an unfair burden on people who have more than one job. Abolishing secondary tax should make the tax system more fair and help people working multiple jobs make ends meet. This is a great policy because some people who cannot get enough money to feed their families. as shown lots of people have two jobs to get enough money but then you will get twice as much tax which would make it harder to get the money you need, and this causes people to quit their jobs and lose money. What if YOU had two jobs and had to pay tax more. This is also a good policy because people who LIKE having two jobs would hate getting secondary tax. Like people who have one job for money and another like art or something that doesn't pay very well but people enjoy. This is another reason you need to vote New Zealand First. These are the policies I like/agree with but next paragraph are the ones I don't like and don't agree with.

This is one of the terrible policies I disagree with...Set a minimum price for alcohol.
The Green Party believes that alcohol is a health and social problem and should be treated as such. This is a bad idea because if the price was lower, more people would buy it and they would buy more. Not the other way around. Would you like christchurch to be a bunch of addicts? Also this would make more people have health problems because they could buy more bottles of alcohol for less money and die early because they could get addicted. I think this is a very good reason not to vote for green/labour, now I will be wrapping up my main points.

In this argument I have stated my favourite policies from New Zealand first and told you why they ARE great and you should vote for them. I think New Zealand first is a great party to vote for because they are very strong in Incomes, Migration, Housing and lots more but this is great because these are very important policies. The points I have talked about include, abolishing secondary tax for low income earners, Remove GST from all food, for people who can't afford things like this and lastly, Keep the retirement age at 65, for grandparents who need the extra money. So have I changed your mind on who to vote for?

My next steps are: To understand the policies even more than I do already and make it so the reader KNOWS that I know a lot about them.

WALT: use appropriate scales, devices and metric units

In maths this term I have been learning about measurement and turning liters into milliliters and centermeters into meters and other things like that and then counting the remainder of that.

My next step is: to understand why I am doing the remainders and things instead of just finding how to work it out.

Koru games reflection

Koru Games Reflection

In the Koru Games the sport I competed in was netball

Our team won 6 games out of 10

I found the experience to be very fun because I got to see lots of my friends that are out of school and it was great to see the year 7's getting better and better and supporting them through it to make them feel like they are a good addition to the team.

In terms of working with Individuals and Groups; my solo level is relational because I am very good at supporting people and making them feel better and I look on what they positively not scolding what they do badly.

For Teamwork; my solo level is relational because I pass the ball a lot and don't just pass to the people who are particularly strong, I give everyone a fair turn even if they through the ball away.

Individuals and groups
I need help to work in a group (with teachers or other students
I can work in a group with my friends.
I can work in a group with anyone in my  year level or team

I can respond positively to the needs of others
I can reflect on how well I work with the group and seek feedback on how I can improve

I can participate and take responsibility in a team and explain my choices in terms of team outcomes.

distinction leadership 6

Today the leaders had a meeting about the chorus box. We had a look at all the comments we had made on what we should put on the box and they were all good! We are going to start doing the drawings now then send the best one off to the professional and he can draw it on the box and we can paint in the lines. I showed community by putting an idea what to do on the box, I showed leadership by listening to the other peoples ideas. I was a role model by listening to Mr L.

distinction technology 6

Today I went to tech with all the other year 7/8's. In the bus I sat with Savannah, Sophie and Charlotte in the back seat of the bus. When we finally got to tech Savannah and I walked to the woodwork and started on our speakers. Mine is white with a picture of belle from beauty and the beast on it and Savannah's is all black with a picture of Tinkerbell on one side. After a good 30 mins we went to mandarin and learned about days of the week. I showed excellence by singing the mandarin song. I showed leadership by helping other people with their wires in their box. I was a role model by doing the right things and getting involved at interval.

Letter writing

In Writing we have been learning to: Write a formal letter.

We have followed the writing process and have planned and drafted a formal letter.

This shows the process that we have followed.

Here is the letter that I have written

Here is my reflection on the letter writing that we have done.

One thing that I found challenging about writing formal letters was remembering to do all the dates and addresses and stuff. And also getting the format right.

My next step is: look for more opportunities to put my letter writing knowledge into practice in the future.
