Key leadership role merit 3

On Monday the leaders hosted the full school assembly, we only found out in the morning! We got our scripts at morning tea and started practicing them. My one was about reminding the school to show their care values. This was a good thing for the leaders to do because now we know what sort of things we have to do as leaders. Mr Ladbrook I think was proud of us because that was basically the first big thing the leaders have done so far in our roles. I showed Excellence because I spoke with pride and took the tips the teachers had about public speaking.

Kapa Haka merit post 3

Today was the second kapa haka practice. Firstly again we took off our shoes and then got into our lines from last week. We firstly practiced a song and added some echo into it, and I thought it sounded amazing! We then practiced a Stan walker song and discussed what performances we are going to do this year. It was mostly about the festivals we will do and about what songs we will do, the teachers also think we will bring an old song back into the kapa haka because it worked really well.. I showed respect because I was listening and trying my best in singing.

A12 Design your own challenge (weetbix triathlon)

Today I participated in the weetbix triathlon. In the weetbix triathlon you enter in your age group and on a weekend you go down to Jellie Park to actually do it. Firstly in my age group you would have to do a 200 meter swim, then an 8 km bike ride and lastly a 1.5 km run. You get a medal for participating and giving it a good go. Charlotte L was the one I went with, and we were the only year 8's in Oaklands school that did it this year. I enjoyed the swim because it was refreshing and I was in the front because I went first.
Here is Charlotte and me biking today in the rain!

Square numbers to 100 and their matching square roots.

In Maths we have been learning:

Square numbers to 100 and their matching square roots.
This is part of our basic facts knowledge.
It is important to just know these as we can use this knowledge in other areas of maths.

Here is a link to our online modelling book.

Here are the IXL screenshots that show evidence of my learning.

My next learning step in Maths is……. to work them out quicker and know the square numbers off by heart.

Home learning challenge C9, a Attend a community event with your family e.g Sparks in the park, A&P show

Today I went to the lantern festival with my family. It was amazing, even better then last years one! There were so many different shaped lanterns you wouldn't believe it! We walked around the park and then went back home, it took us about 30 mins to walk around! Because there was so much!
This is Grace and I by some of the lanterns.

Kapa Haka merit post 2

Today was the first practice of kapa Haka for the year. Firstly we took off our shoes went into the hall and got into groups, one side were the ones that didn't want to perform so they are in the non-performance group and the other side were the ones that wanted to perform and that was me. We then started to do a few songs so the teachers could hear what we sounded like as a group. Then the teachers gave us lines for performances. After that everyone left but they asked some people to volunteer to do poi at the cultural week performance and that was Sophie Amelia Brook and I. I showed excellence because I was getting involved to volunteer to do the poi.

Key leadership role merit blog post 2

Today the leaders got together to meet about what our goal is this year to help the students of our school. The house captains got together and our goal is to have a litter free school, so we came up with an idea that we will announce in assembly one day. We also got to learn how to put the flags up at the front of the school in the morning, I will be taking one flag down AFTER school. We also watched a video of the guy from GRIP leadership about the things we should do while being leaders like one of his ideas was to organised lots of games. I showed active thinking by giving my ideas to the house captains.

Home learning challenge A.2, design I set of cards to give to your family or friends over the year.

Today I made a set of cards for my family and friends over the year. I made them with some fancy card I have, some pens and stamps and stickers. Some of them are for my family and some for my friends. These ones are for the birthdays coming up in the month. But I plan on making some before other people's birthdays come up. Here are the photos of the finished cards.

Key leadership role merit blog post 1

Today the leaders had a meeting, because Mr L wasn't in the class we had Mrs McCleod. We were learning about how to actively speak in public, and I was nervous because I,m not very strong at speaking in public but today I learnt a lot and am feeling much more confident now. Firstly we had to read a poem to ourselfs, then pick a partner and read it to them (this was quite a hard poem to read) So I read my poem to Sophie and then she read it back to me. Then Mrs McCleod grouped us with one more person and we got put with Maddy. Next we read it to all of our group. After that we picked parts to read each and read the poem in front of the rest of the leaders. We then put back the poems, got a sticky note and put a random topic on it and handed it to Mrs McCleod (I put dogs) Little did we know we were going to be handed one of them and speak about that subject for a minute! That really helped us all. I showed respect by not laughing at peoples topics and the people who were really nervous to public speak.

Wearing my hat at lunch merit blog post 1

Today after the year 7/8s came back from tech witch was in the middle of eating time so we had to put our bags back, grab our food, get our  hats and go outside very quickly. Firstly my friends and I went to go finish our food by our class then played netball on the basketball court and we were all wearing out hats the whole time and we didn't take them off to run or anything! A duty teacher walked past and gave us a pozi because she said we were being positive role models. I showed excellence by getting involved at lunch while wearing my hat!
