Excellence can do 10

Today at lunch time I got involved and role modeled positively by doing it. I played volleyball with Savannah and Sophie at lunch and morning tea because Savannah brought her volleyball to school. We are going to play this game every morning tea now because Sophie and Savannah also have volleyball trials coming up soon so they can now practice with me at lunch since I played last year. I showed excellence by helping out Savannah and Sophie to practice for volleyball trials. I showed leadership by  role modeling  to the little kids and getting involved.helping out Savannah and Sophie to practice for volleyball trials.

Excellence key leadership 10

Today the student leaders went to the ccc (Christchurch city council) to learn about what they actually do in our neighborhoods and to the parks and the buildings they own. Firstly we went into the function room which is just a big room with chairs that we could sit on. Then the lady who was showing us around (Celia) showed us this slide show she must have made up and it had stuff about how much water they use per day how many bins they collect from houses and stuff like that so we could see how busy they actually are. After we saw the whole slideshow we had a morning tea brake and we ate our food and sat down and talked. After the morning tea we meet up with someone who worked at the ccc in groups of three. I was with Savannah and Sophie which are some of my best friends so I was happy! We meet up with a lady called deb, she worked as a road designer which means she looks at the roads and tries to make them better if they don't have a curb or not enough road signs, and if so then she goes and fixes it. We then did an activity where you had a subject and some of them were...Event planning (the one Savannah, Sophie and I got) Park designing, and some more. We had to plan an event and have all the things we wanted in the event and then add up the cost and we had to be within the budget we got of $9000. After we finished this game we left the ccc and started walking to the sushi shop for lunch. After the lunch we started walking back to the bus stop to go back to school. I showed respect by listening to the Celia when she was sharing. I showed leadership by representing Oaklands school positively in the streets.

Excellence key leadership 9

Today the leaders all had a meeting again about the trip we are having on Monday to go to the council and about the house captains STILL not doing their jobs of putting up the flags and taking them down and the same with the bins. We were talking about how mr Ladbrook sent us an email on what food we want from the sushi shop we are going to on Monday when we are out on the trip. We also made a plan for the house captains and it says who's taking out the bins and flags and who's brining them in. It also has your name and then a box where you tick if you do it. I showed respect by answering the email as quickly as possible because that's what mr Ladbrook told us to do and I showed leadership by going to the meeting and doing my jobs like the flags and bins.

Excellence cross county zones 9

On Friday I went to the south west zones cross county with the other people that came 1st 2nd or 3rd in the cross country for school in their event. In the school cross country I came 2nd and that means I go to zones. We had to be at school before 8:30 on Friday so we could get to the event on time and sort out where we are sitting and things like that. I kept getting more nervous and nervous as the races went on and on throughout all the year groups. Finally our race came and we had to take off all our jackets and sweatshirts, it was freezing! We then lined up on the starting line and the horn went off! We were racing. I got puffed straight away and got nervous if I could finish the whole race in a running pace. 3km went fast and by the time I got stitch in my tummie I was already crossing the finish line! It was over. I came 10th as I found out on the sheet. Which means I get to go to Canturburys and represent Oaklands school for it! I showed excellence by participating in the zones and I showed leadership by representing my school positively.

Excellence kapa Haka 8

Today was kapa Haka and we started off by singing our main waiata which is Ka waiata. We sing this song with pride because all our school sings it and it is kind of like our school song because all our school knows it and sings it lots of the time. We then sang a new song that the teachers learnt when they went to the marae on the teacher only day. We then practiced out actions to all the songs and wrapped up. I showed community by singing with pride and listening to Matua. I showed leadership by  getting involved and committing to a group like kapa Haka.

Excellence key leadership 8

Today the leaders had a meeting in our classroom through morning tea, this is the first time we have ever had a meeting through morning tea because we usually have them just throughout the eating time. We mainly talked about the trip we are going on to the city council in a couple weeks and I am very excited about going on the trip because only the leaders are going and it sounds like it will be great fun! I showed respect by listening to Mr Ladbrook and letting him have his work. I showed leadership by going to the meeting and contributing to the discussion.

Excellence kapa Haka 7

Today was kapa Haka. We firstly went and took our shoes off (as normal) and went to sit down on the hall floor ready to listen and learn new actions and songs! We normally start with the song Ka waiata, but today we didn't! We started with a song written by Stan Walker and it sounded great! We then practiced our actions to a new song AND the old song. We then practiced Ka waiata because this is a beautiful song we all love and all sing in our classes. I showed respect by respecting the songs even if I didn't like them and I showed leadership by turning up and making a commitment to going to kapa Haka every week.

Excellence key leadership 7

Today I helped taking out the flags because it's Thursday and we have to get to school early for tech and I normally help because I get to school really early and have time to do them even though it's not my job. After technology we had lunch and the leaders went for a meeting! We talked mainly about this trip we are having, going to the city council and going around town, wihich seems pretty exciting! We also talked about the people who haven't got their badges but most of them are really close. I showed excellence by already completing my badge and making it easier for Mr L and I showed leadership by helping the leaders out by doing the flags.

Excellence kapa Haka 6

On Friday we had kapa Haka and we meet as a group every Friday in the hall to practice our performances and songs and actions. We started of by taking off our shoes and putting them in the hall and then going and sitting down in our performance lines in the hall quietly. Next we started singing our main song which is called Ka Waiata and that sounded great! Next we practiced out actions to a new song and focused on learning the actions and doing them without Matuas help. I showed community by showing people what the actions were. I showed leadership by getting involved and taking part in clubs such as the kapa Haka group.

Excellence key leadership 6

Today all the leaders had a meeting with Mr L because some of the leaders still haven't got their merit badges and Mr ladbrook was just reminding them what they needed to do for their blog posts and home learning challenges and all that. We also talked about how the house captains are sometimes forgetting to put out the flags and then bring them back inside after school and also forgetting to but out the bins out in the morning and brining them back in, so we made a solution. I showed excellence by making suggestions to help the problems and I showed leadership by turning up to the meeting and also listening to other people's ideas.

Excellence key leadership role 5

On Thursday all the leaders meet to confirm what was going on with getting our merits (because all the leaders have to get to their leadership merit badge before the end of term or they could get fired) and Mr L found that some people haven't gotten them yet! Mr L then said that he would let them do thier last posts and home learning challenges during the holidays just to finish off. Then he talked about how the house captains are going to do the game at the start of term 2 since we couldn't this week.

Excellence technology 5

Today all the year 7/8s went to technology until 12:30! I am in the design group and we started off by learning how to thread and start asewing machine because some of the year 7s didn't know how to. Then we learned about how to go backwards on the machine and change the settings to things like the zig zag one. We then went over to mandarin and we all knew we were doing art when we walked into a room with paper all over the tables! We were going to get a blob of black ink on out paper plates and we had to blow it and try to get it to look like a pretty tree they like in Asia. We then had to dip our fingers into red paint and do dogs around the tree branches and make them look like blossoms for the trees.

Key leadership role 4

Today we had a meeting for the leaders and Mr Ladbrook talked to us about how the house captains have to run a game again because it has been so terribly wet we couldn't even do it! We have to get it done by the end of term so I hope it doesn't rain or their might be some angry students and teachers. We just kept planning because we couldn't actually run the games because we were wet day monitoring the younger students because the year 6s were on camp and they normally do it. I showed leadership by stepping up and actually doing the wet day monitoring and I showed excellence by planning and making it even more better for the game!

Excellence Technology 4

On Thursday I had to get to school early to get to tech, his was also the day I went to canturbury swimming! The year 7/8s always go to technology at Lincoln on Thursdays and today we all got there pretty much on time! We got on the bus and after a surprisingly quiet bus trip we were there! Today we were changing groups and I was going to Design! The design is now upstairs so I was excited! We firstly got to know the teachers then we got into some of the stuff we were going to have to do and some of the systems around the area. I showed leadership by explaining to some of the year 7s what they meant because I did this last year! I showed respect by listening to the teachers and sharing some ideas. This wasn't all the day but I had to leave for swimming after this.

Excellence kapa Haka 3

At kapa Haka on Friday we were getting ready to go in when we (Sophie, Anneke and I) realised there was nobody about and then we remembered that least week they told us that we had to line up by the year 6 hub now so we don't disturb Mrs Trotter and the staff people in the office. When we went inside we practiced the usual songs and lracticed the actions from the song we learned last week and the week before! I showed respect by being quiet when we were lining up in the year 6 hub so we don't disturb them. I showed leadership by showing people the actions that don't really know them.

Excellence key leadership 3

On Thursday I went out to the field with Tracy to run our game when I realised...it was closed so I couldn't do my game for the kauri students from Miro! It would have been better to do it last week because the year 7s were on camp and that means less people to handle! But anyway we couldn't do our game so we just planned more to get it so nothing goes really wrong. I showed leadership by just keeping on planning and not worringing about not doing it. I showed a give thinking by getting out there and now we know what we will need and how many kids will be waiting!

Excellence key leadership 2

On Wednesday the leaders met up and had a meeting. While all the rest of the classes were eating the house captains were talking about what they are gonna do for a game. The house captains have to run a game every term for the school (kauri or kakano) this is a good idea because it gets the school involved at lunches and it's good for the house captains to have something to do. Tracy and I are thinking of doing dodge ball in the hall with the kauri students but we are not to sure, but this game would be a good idea because all you need is balls. I showed active thinking by giving the other house captains ideas for thier games and I showed leadership by showing up to the meeting and getting our game sorted on time.

Excellence kapa Haka 2

Today was kapa Haka. Firstly we had to take off our shoes and put them in the hall foyer until the end of kapa Haka when we will put them back on. Next we sang a song for the non performance kapa Haka so they can go back to their class. After that we sang the song Hare Mai and practiced our actions that we made up last week. Soon after that we sang another song by Stan Walker and practiced doing the whole thing in Maori and just the rap in English so it sounds nice. I showed excellence by listening to the teachers so they could get on with teaching us. I showed leadership by turning up to kapa Haka and helping the kids find thier space again.

Excellence 1 key leadership

On Tuesday the leaders had a talk about who is doing the flags because some people aren't doing it after and before school because they just don't want to. We also talked about how the house captains have to get their game ready for the term because every term the house captains run a game for all the Kauri students of the whole school because some kids don't get involved at lunch and these games are really fun for lots of them. Tracy and I think we want to do capture the flag. I showed community by giving some of the house captains ideas for their games. I showed leadership by turning up to this meeting.
